How to Register

1. Online

Register online now!

Online entries will close at 4pm, 11 November 2016

2. In person

Drop into Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Level 1, 68 Hay Street, Subiaco (corner Hamilton St) to enter.

Open Monday – Friday, 9am until 4pm.

In person entries close 4pm, 4 November 2016

3. On the day

Register on the day at Burswood Park from 7am.

Big Walk Map

The John Hughes Big Walk caters for everyone, with 3 event distances:

  • 15km walk, starts at 8am
  • 11km walk, starts at 8.30am
  • 6km walk, starts at 9am

Start times

All events will start at Burswood Park, Great Eastern Hwy – entry off Great Eastern Hwy via Resort Drive or Bolton Ave.

A warm up routine will be performed on the main stage 15 minutes prior to the start of each walk, so come down early and join in the action!

All walkers should finish between 10am – 11am.  Stick around for the prize draw that will take place between 11am and 11.30am and have some fun with the kids at the Stitches Bear Fair (free entry).


Parking & Transport

Public transport

Train – Burswood station on the Armadale Thornlie line, is the closest to Burswood Park.
Bus – there are a number of buses that stop adjacent to Burswood Park on Great Eastern Hwy.

There is ample FREE parking available at Burswood Park.


Stitches Bear Fair

Join the family fun at the finish line. After you’ve enjoyed a walk around the river, stay and enjoy a coffee, ice cream and a sausage sizzle while the kids enjoy FREE entertainment at the Bear Fair – rides, face painting, animal farm and much more!

The Stitches Bear Fair is open from 9.30am – 12.30pm


Team entry

Get together with your work colleagues, club, family or friends and register a team in the John Hughes Big Walk.

To register a team, simply nominate a team captain, choose a team name and then include those details on your online registration form.

Please note: Each participant must complete separate entry details and agree to the event terms and conditions.



Book your own space after the Big Walk – a place to sit and relax in the shade, enjoy a sausage sizzle, kebab and a cool drink – it’s a great way to reward your supporters and team members.

Marquee packages include:

  • Marquee (size determined by number of people in your team)
  • Signage (team or company name)
  • Trestle tables
  • Chairs
  • Catering – a sausage, bread roll, chicken kebab, drink and piece of fruit (per person)
  • Other – drinks tub, ice, tongs, plates, cups, napkins, onions, sauces (tomato, BBQ & mustard)
  • Each marquee has its own outdoor garden area.

All food will be cooked/prepared and delivered to your marquee at 10.30am (after the majority of walkers have returned to Burswood Park)
